For the past few months I've been undergoing personal coaching, by Menno. Today we simply spoke about the successes I've booked over the past few weeks. All of them were brought on by actions I undertook based on the coaching i've been receiving. Each of the following was an 'action point' or 'todo' item from our sessions.
- In kendo, I have discussed my moral dilemma with Ton-sensei. He reassured me that it's best for me to train where I feel at home, that I need to find what makes me get the most out of kendo. After I explained a bit of the background of my dilemma, his only reply was the image to the left: "choose based on your own talents, motivations and desires".
- I had an open-hearted talk with Bert Heeren-sensei, about the aforementioned dilemma and about motivating my kouhai at Almere. I'd spoken about that latter matter with Menno and the general consensus is that I can only lead by example and by calling them out on bad behaviour. He also shared a story from his past, which had the same message as Ton gave me: you need to choose where to train, based on what you need and loyalty comes second to that.
- I'm working hard on my professional relevance, having achieved ITILv3, starting on RHCSA and retaining my CISSP.
- In last night's kendo practice I pushed through a bit of anxiety, to keep on training.
- At work things have changed a lot with regards to R and last year's big hubbub. For the past two weeks we've actually been working together again with positive results.
- Also at work, I've taken initiative to get out of my seat and actually start visiting people again. Have a talk with teams at the other end of the building, teams with whom I work on a daily basis but we only ever speak through mail, phone and chat.
