I really should make myself do more kendo practice at home. I don't know why I started slacking, but it's dumb. ಠ_ಠ
So thank $DEITY that Martijn SMSed me, asking if I was up for practice! No excuse to slack off anymore! We took a lot of time trying to get me to understand the movements for fast men, but I still don't get the right movements. I can do the thrust just fine, but for now I cannot manage to work in the required smack! to make a hit. We did manage to make a few nice potholes in the lawn, practicing fumikomi and hayasuburi ^_^;
Martijn also let me try on his bogu. The tare, kote and do are just fine and wearing them was actually quite comfortable. Putting on the men it was soon clear that, while my glasses do fit under there, the helmet really doesn't fit well doing so. This means that I need sports glasses, contacts or laser surgery, just like I was foretold. Meh... :/
Getting struck on the do doesn't hurt at all, unless it misses :p The kote strikes were a bit sharp and the men hits were pretty... interesting, that's the word.

Good point Menno!
And the reason why I say "not enough" is because after all these months I still fail to grasp something as rudimentary as the fast men-strike :/

I see. How many techniques do you actually find difficult to grasp. Are you focussing on one in specific or are there many? Don't poor all your energy in one thing when loads of other things are going well :).
If there's something standing in your way to grasp something perharps doing more isn't the answer. Perhaps you can first ask how come it's not working sometimes :)

well the other techniques are going well but seen marshial arts are all about technique you need to master them all and the strike he is strugeling with is a basic tech he needs to progress but look on the bright side cailin it can take upto 50 years to master the technique so dont worry you just started and its not a shame you can execute it properly yet

Thanks for piping in Martijn :)
And don't worry, I'm not ashamed that I'm not succeeding in "fast men" just yet. It's humbling and sometimes annoying that I cannot do something that is seemingly easy, but still: kendo's a great sport :)

Ups and downs in training ethos are both part of the game. That's just the way it is in sports, as in all areas of life. Don't beat yourself up about it and try not to get frustrated. "De boog kan niet altijd gespannen staan".
During the year I have several (I think about 5) weeks when I do no climbing at all. This help me rest mentally and physically. If I don't listen to my body and mind in time they will MAKE me rest for a week (I get sick, lol).
Anyway's, don't beat yourself up and try to have some fun with it. Besides, how much practice is "enough" for you?
