Well crap: iPod RIP

2007-12-14 11:16:00

The laser etched Hogwart's logo.

Marli's beloved Harry Potter special edition iPod has died. Or actually: its hard drive has died. It's making the dread whirr-whirr-clickety-click noises ;_; I bought it for her as a belated Christmas present in January of 2006, so it's a little under two years old.

And thank $DEITY for that! Because now it's still covered under its AppleCare protection plan! If this thing'd died only a month later, we'd be out the money for a new hard drive. Let's see how quickly Apple can replace the hard drive on this thing. And let's hope that it'll still be a Harry Potter iPod when it comes back.

In the meantime I'll let Marli use my iPod, since she really lives by that thing. Not a day goes by without her playing it at least for two to three hours. One of the most useful presents ever, I'd say :)

iPod: back and forth, from FAT to HSF+

2005-09-22 07:26:00

I thought I'd be clever... I thought I'd save some money... I thought I could simply convert my iPod's file system from HFS+ (OS X) to Windows (FAT) and still keep using it like I always have. Well, I can't! I'd forgotten how sucky the FAT fs is when compared to HFS+ (or most other UNIX file systems), so while I _can_ now use the iPod as a USB drive to transfer files at the office (which uses Windows), I now cannot use the drive for my own backups!

Well, fuck that :) I'm going back! I guess I'll just have to spend the twenty-something euro on an USB stick.

Andy Ihnatko on the iPod shuffle

2005-03-14 07:27:00

I've always fancied Andy Ihnatko's writings, but this month he really takes the cake! This guy's hilarious! How does he come up with this stuff? On the Shuffle he writes:

There's no screen, just an LED. It blinks green to acknowledge that we've pressed one of the navigation buttons, orange to tell us that we've locked the keypad against accidental presses, and when it blinks red, it means that it's time for us to turn and face towards Cupertino California, bite down on the end of the shuffle to crack open the cyanide compartment and then await the magical spaceship that will take us to a new and better place.

Birthday, drawing and translating

2004-06-26 00:10:00

And it's time for yet another mini-update!

My birthday will be coming up shortly (Yay for the 29th of June!) and combining that with at least two other birthdays within the family will mean that we will get to see a lot of our family this month. This is a good thing of course, 'cause usually we don't see enough of them :) Staying on the topic of birthdays: Marli gave me my present about two weeks early 'cause she just couldn't hold the surprise anymore ^_^ SHE BOUGHT ME A FRIGGIN' 40G iPOD!! OMFG! So right now I'm working hard on converting all of my CD's to AAC, so I can take them with me, everywhere I go.

Also, the last couple of days I had a little inspiration when it came to drawing comics and I decided to try something new. Actually, this new format was a bit of a necesity because I was supposed to be doing something else at the time. Drawing this way allowed me to draw a bit while remaining at least a little inconspicuous ;) It's three pages worth and I'll put them up in the Comics section.

P.S.

Oh yeah! Before I forget!.. About a month ago I finished my work on the first translation of iBank into the dutch language. Be sure to check out the IGG Software site if you're looking for an easy accounting suite for the Apple Mac.
